Earlier in my Blog, I shared the story of my time with John Johansen, including a trip to his famous Bridge and Tent houses. Here are some other homes that have caught my attention, as well:
Hye Ro Hun House – South Korea
Designed by IROJE KHM Architects and located in the Gwangju Prefecture, Korea, the home is a multi-level masterpiece. This is one of the most breathtaking structures I have ever seen – the complexity of the design coupled with the simplicity of the materials, surrounded by nature, makes this house a masterpiece.
The Glass House – Philip Johnson
One of the most iconic modern homes, certainly the most recognizable in my hometown of New Canaan, CT, is actually a small part of a larger compound which contains an art studio, gallery, pond, and more. The home is now a stop – and the focal point – of a tour open to the general public.
The Glass House – Santambrogiomilano Architects
Werner Sobek – Germany
Mr. Sobek has designed several of my favorite homes – none of which I have been able to see in-person, sadly.
My favorite of his is R128.
Sobek’s H-16 takes full advantage of its surroundings.
Lastly, Haus D10 is a marvel of simplicity in nature.
I’ll be posting more of my favorite homes in the future!
