Fragrance Review: Bad Boys Are No Good But Good Boys Are No Fun by Kilian

Hi all,

I’m here to share my first fragrance review – Bad Boys Are No Good But Good Boys Are No Fun by Kilian! On Sunday, I purchased a 7.5ml vaporisateur for just under $29 with a 10% discount at Sephora and have spent the last several days wearing it in various environments… I am pleased to report that I genuinely enjoy the fragrance and plan to purchase it again! I’m a fragrance collector and wear them based on my mood, oft changing throughout the day, so I don’t think I could pin-down when and where I would wear Bad Boys at a given moment, but I hope the rest of my review helps you figure out when and where you might want to! After sampling numerous Tom Ford and Hermes fragrances, it took me a few moments to fully appreciate Bad Boys’ complexity as the cola notes dominated my palette for the first few minutes. A few moments later, the nutmeg burst forth and was followed immediately by cinnamon. I did not notice the presence of lime on my skin until sometime later during the drydown, after the cola had subsided. Growing up a Coca-Cola fan, I was pleased to find a fragrance that reminded me of that fun treat without being overly sweet or a large-room-sillage-bomb. Moreover, as is the case with several other by Kilian fragrances I have worn (e.g. Vodka on the Rocks), Bad Boys evolves, over time, from a powerful soda-scent into a much more mature and well-balanced fragrance that brings with it elements of cedar and apple.

  • Concentration: Eau de Parfum
  • Primary: Cola!
  • Secondary: Nutmeg and Cinnamon
  • Tertiary: Lime, Apple, and Cedar
  • Sillage: Given the cola’s initial strength, I’m very impressed with Bad Boys’ projection as it is not overpowering whilst remaining present, throughout the day. Additionally, others have noted how well-rounded the fragrance is, after the initial spray, with its notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, and lime showing themselves frequently.
  • Longevity: I am very pleased by just how long Bad Boys lasts on my skin! While it may not stand the test of time on clothing like by Kilian’s Oud Musk, I could still detect the fragrance on my wrist 6+ hours later!
  • Versatility: I purchased the smallest offering not only because I travel frequently, but also due to the fact that Bad Boys is most definitely not an all-environments fragrance. As the description implies, it is a bright, fun, and powerful fragrance that does not seem appropriate for an office or school environment, but I believe it can be worn year-round!
  • Originality: I cannot say I have smelled a fragrance that reminded me so strongly of Coca-Cola, specifically – and I love it! That is not to say that it is incredibly youthful, either, as it’s not overly sweet.
  • Bottle: The Sephora I visited had all three sizes of Bad Boys on display and, whilst the unique bottles of the larger formats (50ml and 100ml) are made of quality materials, they are relatively unwieldy for travel. And as I do so frequently, I went with the smallest packaging available.
  • Price: Bad Boys is part of both the latest and cheapest offerings by Kilian – although these are exclusive to Sephora – and I am very pleased with my purchase! I don’t think I would get another fragrance from this collection, but Bad Boys is fun, powerful, and unique as well as affordable.
  • Overall: While not suited for all occasions, I really enjoy Bad Boys and it certainly has its place in fun environments and effervescencent occasions – I hope you get a chance to try it, as well!

Thank you so much for reading!
