Fragrance Review: Tobacco Reserve by Aramis

Hello again,

I’m back with another fragrance review, and today I’ll be looking at a real powerhouse – Tobacco Reserve by Aramis I first purchased my 100ml vaporisateur at Marshall’s for around $25 and couldn’t be happier with my purchase! From its first spray, Tobacco Reserve took me right back to my childhood and my father’s pipe of choice – Captain Black Gold!

A deep, dry tobacco leaf is the first and most dominant element of the fragrance – but with some air, sage quickly appears and Tobacco Reserve‘s heart opens with cassis and currants. At first, I thought the parfum concentration was unnecessary, but without a strong base of tonka bean and vanilla to balance out the supreme tobacco note, the effort would have been in vain. On my skin, Tobacco Reserve is more than deserving of its moniker as it is a fairy simple, yet powerful fragrance that projects very well.

While nearly as strong in terms of longevity as the original Aramis by Aramis, Tobacco Reserve is a much more subtle fragrance that can please throughout the day, finishing with hints of nutmeg and oakmoss. And unlike its complex, green, and bright analogue, TR is much more versatile in that I could easily see it being worn by both men and women.

  • Concentration: Eau de Parfum
  • Primary: Tobacco and Cassis
  • Secondary: Sage, Oakmoss, and Nutmeg
  • Tertiary: Vanilla and Tonka Bean
  • Sillage: Wow – this thing PROJECTS!
  • Longevity: I have been able to detect elements of Tobacco Reserve on my skin 8+ hours after application, and at least 6 on my clothing.
  • Versatility: Whilst a very powerful tobacco-based fragrance, I believe it can be worn throughout the year due to its simplicity and elegance. Moreover, it may even be a nostalgia item, for some!
  • Originality: In sticking with the Aramis theme, this is a no-holds-barred fragrance in that each ingredient is allowed to shine (and brightly!).
  • Packaging: Like all other Aramis offerings, it comes in a rectangular bottle with a gold cap in a tobacco-themed box – nothing too special, but just enough to let the consumer know what they are about to experience.
  • Price: Even at MSRP, I would recommend purchasing Tobacco Reserve – a little goes a long way!
  • Overall: I think this is the best tobacco-centric fragrance available on the market today because of its elegant, simple, and well-balanced profile.
  • Score: 9/10

Thanks so much for reading!
